So the much awaited Surface Pro was launched on Saturday and I was having fun watching the excitement from the sidelines, till the tweets about ‘Sell out’ started trickling in. Funniest was one from Jeff Attwood!
Reports indicate that Microsoft has recently busted the Windows 8 and Windows Store update process. I didn't realize that was the case till I read this report by longtime MS watcher Mary Jo.
Well, Surface RT has been out for almost three months now. The lack of any tom-tomming of Surface sales by Microsoft, compounded with @Stevesi's abrupt departure from MS and the withdrawal of some OEM vendors from the RT market (notably Samsung) has everyone speculating that Surface RT and Windows RT is going to die an early death. There is apparently no market for a tablet that costs more than what Apple charges for its iPad. Yet here I am typing this out on a Surface RT with not a dime spent of additional software or hardware! Fact being that I would have never owned an iPad had my previous company not gifted it to me.
Hi Folks, I am back with some more information on my experience with my 5 days old RT.
If you just got your Surface RT recently (let's just say starting December 5, 2012...) and try to run windows update you might get an error with the cryptic code 8024004C. As of typing this, it's 'unreported' in Google or Bing. I got it and was initially worried but I looked at the list of updates and saw the Firmware update in the list of scheduled updates. I unchecked the Firmware update and kept the optional update of Microsoft Office unchecked, Re-Tried updating and the updates worked. I am assuming the Firmware update needs some of the other updates to be in place. The updates are still going on. Will update this post, when I am able to install the firmware update!
Okay folks, here we go, I've been meaning to blog about this for a while now, but right now when I have a ton of work to finish and it's 4:30am in the morning so I have decided it's the perfect time to blog about my experience with Windows 8 over the last 30 days. This is my non-techie, non-jargon-filled impression of the first 30 days.
The customary first post from your shiny new Gadget ;-). Looks like we'll now miss Windows Live Writer a lot less :-)
Disclaimer: It’s 4 am in the morning, and I have to get this out of my system. Apologies if I sound like I am rambling.
